Deputy President William Ruto will represent President Uhuru Kenyatta during the 17th Summit of the Comesa Heads of State and Government.
The Deputy President left the country Tuesday, February 25th for Kinshasha, Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Summit will take place at Palais Du Peuple Hotel, Kinshasa, DRC, from 26th to 27th.
The convening of the Summit follows the 16th Summit hosted by Uganda between 23rd and 24th November 2012 in Kampala under the theme “Enhancing Intra-COMESA Trade through Micro, Small and medium, Enterprises Development”.
The Current Chair, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, is expected to hand over the Chairmanship to H.E President Joseph Kabila of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), who is the host of the Summit.
The meeting is expected to deliberate on the status of Implementation of COMESA FTA, Progress on the Implementation of the COMESA Customs Union and COMESA-EAC-SADC Tripartite Agenda.
Peace and Security, Infrastructure programmes, Agriculture, Environment and related sectors and two other issues affecting Kenya- COMESA sugar safeguards measures and Non-Tariff Barriers-are also on the agenda.
Thereafter the Deputy President will travel to Nigeria to represent the President and Government during the country’s Centenary celebrations on February 27th, 2014.
