Experts to help cut cost of dams

The Government will tap into expert knowledge from universities to reduce the cost of constructing dams, Deputy President William Ruto has said.

With officers from the ministries of Agriculture and Water and university experts

Mr Ruto said the experts will also help in setting up viable irrigation projects, which have been inflated in the past.

This approach, he said, will ensure value and quality assurance as government pushes ahead with building 15 dams to irrigate arid and semi arid areas in a bid to end food shortage and mitigate effects of climate change.

Mr Ruto urged the experts to work closely with the Water and Agriculture ministries to alleviate food shortage and make the country food secure.

Agriculture Principal Secretary Richard Lesiyampe and his Water and Irrigation counterpart Fred Segor were among those present .
